Dear LIZ community,
Happy September — just like that, the summer months have come and gone. We hope they treated you well. Seasons have a way of marking time and transitions, which is particularly poignant right now at the LIZ. Last month, our Managing Director and Co-Founder, Chris Bentley, announced he would be embarking on a new chapter. Chris has built a remarkable legacy, which we will continue working hard to advance. I know you'll join us in thanking and wishing him the very best. In Chris' words, the future is bright and we're excited to shortly share our plans for the coming months. So grab your pumpkin spice something and get ready — ain't no stopping us now!

Last week, colleagues from the LIZ and the Law Practice Program came together to send off our Co-Founder and Managing Director, Chris Bentley, as he embarks on his next adventure.
Needless to say, Chris' impact and legacy are immeasurable. Our wider community will have an opportunity to celebrate Chris later this year and more details will follow soon. For now, we hope Chris is soaking up some much-deserved sunshine with his family.

1. What excites you most about the work you're doing?
|
I'm most excited by the impact we have on real users. We've solved significant legal issues that users otherwise would have struggled to get affordable help with. Someone might come to Contend overwhelmed by an eviction notice only to find out it's not a legal eviction and they can stay in their home.
|
2. What’s a typical day like working at Contend Legal?
|
I do a broad range of activities from Analytics, Product, Scoping and Dev but the majority of my day is hands-on development.
|
3. What’s a book, podcast, or resource that has influenced you the most?
|
Lean Start-up by Eric Ries had a huge impact on how I work in start-ups. I like pushing for experiments that help find product market fit.
|
4. What's the best advice you’ve ever received?
|
Optimize for Happiness. It can be tempting to go after the highest value opportunities but those often come with substantial additional pressure and stress, especially if they don't fully align with what you are good at.
|
5. Share a fun fact about you!
|
I had a bug at Apple that was Streisand effected by Barbara Streisand. I was working on the TTS team and we mispronounced her name. She called Tim Cook to try and get it fixed but the conversation was leaked to The Guardian and
they ran the story.
