Dear LIZ Community,

Happy start to Spring and close of Q1!

Our team and entrepreneurial community hit the ground running, and that momentum carried us right through the quarter. In January, we welcomed new startups, DemandPay and Predice Law, to our Toronto incubator. On the international front, the UK-based companies in the third cohort of our Global Incubator Programme completed their six-month tenure with a final market visit. Two weeks ago, we celebrated International Women's Day, coming together as a community to learn from a powerhouse panel of women innovators in legal tech.

As the seasons change, we're now excited to be actively recruiting for the next cohort of our virtual pre-accelerator program, Sprint Studio.

For all this and more, read on!

All the best,

Dr. Sasha Saunders
Director

Jointly

1. What’s one unexpected lesson you’ve learned throughout your entrepreneurial journey?

You can email anyone. Seriously. We've been stunned by how willing people are to take meetings, share advice, and introduce you to helpful people. I didn't expect that in a cut-throat industry where everyone's been grinding, but it's been wonderful.

2. What excites you most about the work you're doing?

I am a practicing lawyer, and I find the archaic, overly-complicated, difficult to access legal profession to be really frustrating at times. It feels really invigorating to be co-leading a project that (hopefully) cuts through all of that and is reflective of my values.

3. What's the best advice you’ve ever received?

People don't think about you as much as you think they do.

4. How do you like to celebrate your company’s wins and milestones?

By sending memes to my co-founder, Amanda.

5. Share a fun fact about you!

I love to ski, and many of my major life decisions have been based around snow and skiing. It influenced my decision to go to law school in Vancouver, and was a major reason for our move to Revelstoke, where I have lived for the past 9 years. The ski hill is 7 minutes from my house and there's a lifetime of backcountry skiing to be had in the mountains around town.
