Community Highlight: Launch Into the LIZ

Over the past two weeks, our newly incubated companies have been taking part in our onboarding program, Launch Into the LIZ. 

Highlights of this series have included learning directly from the LIZ founders in Cohort A — Dawood Cheema (Data Function), Thomas Santerre (Catalyzed), and Saru Kanapathipillai (PR Coach) — along with longtime LIZ founder Ankita Sharma (Philer).

1. What excites you most about the work you're doing?

Having the ability to increase the number of individuals that get connected with law firms. Seeking out legal services can be a daunting task, so being able to help make that process more customer-friendly through Lawbrokr is a rewarding feeling, especially because it benefits both the firm and the customer.

2. What’s a typical day like working at Lawbrokr?

As the first sales employee at Lawbrokr, I work closely with our Founder and CEO, Daniel, to grow Lawbrokr's customer base. This process consists primarily of cold outreach to initially educate legal professionals about Lawbrokr, followed by customized demos to learn more about the firms, whether they are a good fit for Lawbrokr, and if they are, how it could be utilized for them specifically!

3. What’s a book, podcast, or resource that has influenced you the most?

'The Client Centered Law Firm' by Jack Newton. This book completely shifted my perspective of law firms and how they need to be viewed beyond just the scope of the law. At the end of the day, law firms are businesses too, and they need to be cognizant of their customers, and customer-experience more specifically, the same way an e-commerce or consumer retail brand would.

4. What's the best advice you’ve ever received?

'Be present'. It might sound simple, but I've found the more I can focus on what is in front of me, rather than in the past or the future, the more effective I am and the better I feel.

5. Share a fun fact about you!

I love hockey! While I was born and raised in Toronto, I am not a Maple Leafs fan but an Ottawa Senators fan (I hope no one gets too upset at this).
