Dear LIZ Community,

Summer is here, and we are feeling aglow from an unforgettable milestone and a busy few weeks.

Last Wednesday, we gathered together to officially celebrate our 10th anniversary! It was an incredible evening and an opportunity to reflect on a decade of legal innovation and the remarkable people — founders, partners, leaders, colleagues, mentors and ecosystem friends — who makeup this brilliant community. Thank you again to our hosting partners Fasken Emerging Tech Practice.

As we look ahead, we are also excited to share some major news: LIZ is moving! This summer we'll be relocating to 44 Gerrard St East — a new home to mark a brand-new chapter for our innovation hub, setting the stage for continued growth.

As we keep building our ecosystem, we are also now recruiting for the LIZ's volunteer Entrepreneur/Expert-in-Residence (EIR) Network. If you are a seasoned entrepreneur or an experienced professional passionate about mentoring the next wave of legal tech trailblazers, we want to hear from you.

For the full scoop on all of this and much more, read on!

Happy start to summer,

Dr. Sasha Saunders

LIZ Happenings

Celebrating 10 Years of LIZ!

Last week, we celebrated a major milestone for the Legal Innovation Zone — 10 years of the LIZ!

Since opening our doors as the world’s first lawtech incubator, we’ve grown into a global entrepreneurial hub, seen our startups scale, and the pace of innovation in the legal profession accelerate. Most importantly to us, we’ve had the privilege of supporting a powerful community of emerging innovators with the grit, vision and determination to transform the future of law through their solutions and skills.

To celebrate, our vibrant community, including founders (current and alumni), volunteer mentors, partners, leaders (past and present), and ecosystem friends, came together last Wednesday in Toronto. Thank you to everyone who joined us — the LIZ would not be where it is today without your support and belief in our mission and work. A special thank you to Kate Grant and her colleagues at Fasken Emerging Tech, our valued partner, for hosting our 10th anniversary. It was a spectacular night, and we couldn't feel more grateful or inspired for our next chapter!

What's Next For Us?

We are Moving On Up (literally)

After 10 great years working out of our office at Yonge and Dundas, we are thrilled to announce that the LIZ will be moving into TMU’s Centre of Urban Innovation (CUI) building, located close by at 44 Gerrard St East. This newly renovated heritage building is home to other industry-aligned zones, and we are excited to commence our next chapter there!

Stay tuned for more updates on our relocation and an invitation to our housewarming party in the Fall!

PrediceLaw

1. Company Elevator Pitch

PrediceLaw automates legal document generation, based on how each firm actually
works: their formatting, their wording, their style. Lawyers upload anything, a recording,
notes, a PDF, and the documents are ready in seconds.

2. What's the best advice you've ever received?

Not advice I was given, something I absorbed watching my family—they moved through
life with a real freedom, rooted in wanting to try things and going all in. I try to carry that.
The pursuit itself is one of the greatest experiences a person can have.

3. If you could have dinner with any innovator or entrepreneur (past or
present), who would it be and why?

Brian Chesky. During COVID, Airbnb lost almost everything and he had to let go of a
quarter of his company. The way he treated people on the way out was remarkable.
That combination of genuine care and the ability to stay grounded under pressure is
what I want to understand better.

4. What's a book, podcast, or resource that has influenced you the most?

The Lean Startup. It reframed something I'd felt for years without the language for it.
The joy I found in engineering and building was never about creating for its own sake. It
was about solving something real. That distinction changed everything.

5. How do you unwind at the end of the day?

I exercise without music. My friends think I'm crazy, but it goes back to competitive
swimming. No distractions, just movement and silence. That's when my mind actually
wanders and processes things. That space is kind of the whole point.
